A lil' trip to P. Ubin

I was heavily contemplating whether or not to go to Pulau Ubin with Dad, Rong and Sam. And I finally decided, heck, just go for it.

I wouldn't contemplate THAT much in the past, my sloth-like body and mind is taking over. It was a nice, hot, sunny day as we cycled toward Mamam Beach.

Following which, there was this nice (exhilarating) boat ride along the coasts of Northern-Eastern Pulau Ubin.

We didn't do much in Ubin, but that little time we spent there really made me reminisce the times during Sec 1 ODAC Orientation Camp (where we suffered in the rain with leaking tents and wet underwear) and the Sec 3 Solo Camp (where we suffered in solitude and fear for 20 hours in Wild Boar Paradise, they are freaky).

Perhaps the drive that left me is probably creeping back. I really hope so. Nonetheless, I'll keep hunting for it.

Enjoy some of the pictures below! ;p

I honestly do not know what flower this is. ID anyone? Rose perhaps?

Rong pointing out to Sam how wonderful swamps are. Really there was nothing there.

By the way, it's Sam's maiden visit to P.Ubin.

These are some Water Lilies and partially-bloomed Water Lotuses. Pity I couldn't get better shots.

Gloomy One

The weather's been gloomy, and so have I.

You all know the phrase, "Jack of all trades, master of none"?

I tell you I'm not a Jack of many trades, very much less a master of any.

Really, I think about the various things I do and have done, I've really got nothing to boast about. Nothing at all. So yea, I don't know what the purpose of this post is.. But, well yea. I don't know la.

Anyway, Yang said something that probably makes sense.

"people do things their own way

it's all perception"

I guess he's right, it's all about perception. But I still perceive that I'm no master, really.

Ahh well... till the next post.

Quidam

I really am lucky, because I managed to catch Quidam! It was really, really entertaining.

Really, anyone out there who is contemplating watching, GO! You won't regret! If can, buy the Tapis Rouge one! :D

Last few shows I think, go grab 'em now!

Think I'll go watch the next time Cirque du Soleil comes to town again with their chapiteaus! Posted by Picasa

Mixers, Ovens and a whole lot of mess

Hello everyone!

I almost stopped blogging, again! But no fear because I'm back with more rubbbish.

Remember one of my posts where I mentioned the baking course I attended? Yea, I finally got down to making my own ciabatta bread at home. But it was no cheap process.

And if you have read my blog right from the start, you would know how rui is a big fat (literally) cheapo.

I get most if not all of my baking ingredients from Phoon Huat Baking Speciality Stores because they are the cheapest around, really! Go check it out yourselves if you don't believe. However, they did not sell an electronic mixer. It would definitely have been cheaper, lah! Especially if they used their trademark brand name, Red Man. I mean, how much cooler can a brand name get, right?

RED MAN!

So anyway, we went around looking for the cheapest mixer in town (Toa Payoh), and surprisingly, found one going at $24.90 at Courts! COURTS, yes COURTS! CHEAPEST.. Don't you perceive their stuff to be high quality, expensive, and all? It is even cheaper than renowned cheapo supermart, Sheng Shiong, which carries one that costs $27! I tell you, I just keep saving... :D

So then we got all our ingredients, tools and rushed back home to get down to baking.

On the agenda was:

1) Ciabatta Bread
2) Oreo Cheesecake

We started with Ciabatta Bread because it would take more time to prepare because we have to let it proof and all. So yea, added the flour, olive oil and salt into the mixing bowl and let it mix. It was mixing for dang long because I errr, forgot when it was ready for the next stage.

So being $24.90, we were starting to doubt it's quality when some smoke, accompanied by a burnt stench was noticed.

So we were thinking, "eh, mixer can keep going for how long ah? the shengshiong one, they say can only go for max 10 consecutive minutes then must let it rest leh! how ah, is it done? its been going on for very long, definitely more than 10 mins liao..."

So we just let it run, hoping it was a quality product carried by Courts, the megastore!

Suddenly, the mixer just stopped working! And the sound was damn funny! You know that sound accompanied by power failures? Argh, I can't describe it in words. Bah! So we just stood there, laughing our asses off! Really!

Anyway, we just proceeded using the traditional tool, our hands.

And the end result, yummy cheesecake and savoury ciabatta bread :D

Moral of the story (I just can't seem to learn), pay for quality, really. Don't bother scrimping...
